Before spending a week in Japan, the ABC host believed America had its flaws and areas for improvement, but considered it to be relatively well-maintained compared to other countries.
When visiting Europe, Kimmel found dirty conditions, but was glad to return home. However, the same didn't hold true for Japan.
Kimmel compared the cleanliness of Japan to Disneyland, while saying America feels like Six Flags in comparison. He remarked on feeling dirtier after returning home, and imagined how the Japanese might view Americans as "garbage people."
During his time in Japan, Kimmel found every bathroom to be remarkably clean, even cleaner than operating rooms in the US.
Kimmel also admired the Japanese practice of carrying their own trash, as public trash cans were removed after a terrorist attack in 1995. He also praised the cleanliness of Japanese bathrooms.
