ABC has renewed the medical procedural for a 21st season, making it the longest running primetime series in ABC history. This news comes as 'Grey’s Anatomy' is airing its 20th season, premiering on Thursday, March 14.
Debuting in 2005, the Ellen Pompeo-led series has brought on new showrunner Meg Marinis for Season 20, taking over from previous showrunner Krista Vernoff, who stepped down from her duties for both 'Grey’s Anatomy' and 'Station 19' after their current seasons.
Creator Shonda Rhimes expressed gratitude for the support of the 'Grey’s Anatomy' fans, leading to the historic 21st season. Rhimes also praised Meg Marinis' storytelling and looks forward to what she has planned for the next season.
