A former head of the Nigeria Labour Congress, named Ali Ciroma, has passed away.
Ciroma passed away at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, located in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, on Tuesday.
Ali Ibrahim Ciroma, a family member and also the Secretary of the Borno State Council, Nigeria Union of Journalists, declared the passing of the labor leader in a statement on Tuesday.
A provided statement expressed, “It is with deep sorrow that I announce the death of Comrade Ali Ciroma, former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress.
The unfortunate incident happened this evening (Tuesday, April 2) at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
The funeral for the deceased will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, at 4pm at the residence of the deceased, No.7A along Galadima Road near Muhammadu Shuwa Memorial Hospital (Nursing Home), Maiduguri.
Ciroma was in charge of the NLC from 1984 to 1988 before being removed from office by the then military administration of Gen Ibrahim Babangida, who dissolved the union.
The Abacha administration reinstated him into union activities by appointing him as the Sole Administrator of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers.
