The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has confirmed the suspension of Maryam Suleiman, the Women Leader, who criticized the state governor, Senator Uba Sani, for the large debt inherited from the previous administration in the state.
The party praised the state's debt disclosure and it demonstrated the governor’s dedication to transparent and inclusive governance.
The PUNCH reported that Sani had expressed concern about the large debt inherited from his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, during a Town Hall Meeting on Saturday.
Sani mentioned that the state now has very little funds, insufficient for salary payments, and his administration inherited a total of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities from the ex-governor.
“Despite the substantial debt burden of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 Contractual Liabilities unfortunately inherited from the previous administration, we are determined to lead Kaduna State towards progress and sustainable development.
“We have thoroughly assessed our situation and are adjusting our focus accordingly,” the governor stated.
In response, the APC women's leader criticized the governor in a widely circulated video in Hausa.
As a result, the women's leader was suspended from her Badarawa/Malali ward.
However, the state APC, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Salisu Wusono, on Tuesday in Kaduna, confirmed the indefinite suspension.
The ruling party praised the governor’s open and inclusive leadership style, evident in the diverse representation at the Town Hall meeting.
“The event provided a platform for discussing the state’s challenges, progress, and plans, reflecting the administration’s commitment to citizen engagement,” the party stated.
The party also applauded Sani’s recent initiatives aimed at easing economic hardship and promoting progress in Kaduna State.
