John Eastman, who used to work for Trump and was involved in planning a coup, is no longer allowed to work as a lawyer in California.
It’s official: John Eastman, Trump’s former lawyer, cannot practice law in California while waiting for his appeal through the state’s courts.
As of Tuesday, Eastman is marked as “not eligible to practice law” on the State Bar of California’s website. This decision comes three days after State Bar Court of California Judge Yvette Roland suggested that Eastman’s law license be put on “involuntary inactive” status.
A judge recommended Eastman’s disbarment last week. Eastman can challenge the ruling in California, but it's unlikely to be successful. It seems improbable that Eastman will ever be able to practice law in the state again. While he could potentially get licensed in 49 other states, bar associations typically do not welcome disbarred lawyers.
Chances are that Eastman is done as a licensed attorney, having become another instance of someone who carried out Trump’s wishes and faced the consequences of the illegal plan, while Trump has managed to avoid facing any consequences so far.
Being disbarred is not the same as being in prison, but trying to overthrow the government should lead to consequences.
