The Special Military Taskforce in Plateau State has raided areas occupied by bandits in Wase Local Government Area.
During the raid in Zurak Compani community on Monday and Tuesday, 18 bandits were feared to have been killed.
Residents confirmed to PUNCH Online in Jos, the state capital, on Tuesday that the bandits and their informants were killed.
Two weeks ago, the bandits attacked a market in Zurak Compani and killed about seven people. attacked Shapi’i Sambo, a youth leader in Wase, confirmed that security forces and vigilantes tracked and killed the bandits in a joint operation.
Sambo said the bandits were attacked during a meeting in their hideout.
He explained, “The incident occurred around 11am while they were holding a meeting in the area.
“It was a coordinated effort by security operatives and vigilantes from Wase and neighbouring communities of Taraba State.”
Another youth leader, Abdullahi Usman, also confirmed the incident and said, “The bandits were targeted based on credible information.
“They had been targeted since after the recent attack on the market in the area. Based on credible information, they were confronted at one location. Their accomplices were also tracked down and killed.”
The spokesman for the Military Special Taskforce in Plateau State, SN Zhakom, said he would get back to our correspondent after speaking with the Sector Commander in charge of the Council Area.
