The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, said that religion cannot divide Nigeria as a nation.
Akpabio said this on Monday evening when he had Iftar (breaking of fast) with his Muslim colleagues.
During the event, Akpabio mentioned that religion cannot divide them. He noted that it was not a coincidence that the Christian Lenten and Muslim Ramadan periods overlap.
He stated that it was to show that despite having different religions, Muslims and Christians believe in one Supreme God.
Akpabio congratulated everyone for breaking fast and thanked Almighty Allah for keeping them alive. He also congratulated them on the Easter celebration and prayed for their well-being during Ramadan.
He mentioned that it was not a coincidence that Muslims and Christians were fasting at the same time.
He emphasized that despite having different religions, there is only one Supreme God who looks after everyone.
He further added that the invitation was for those still around and those who had not gone to Saudi Arabia for the last 10 days of Ramadan to come together and break the fast.
He invited Christian Senators to join as well, emphasizing the need for unity and collaboration for the benefit of the country.
He stressed the importance of serving humanity and being accountable for their deeds on earth, serving through Almighty God.
He mentioned that this period of Ramadan and Easter reconnects people with God and their purpose of living in peace and harmony.
He highlighted the purpose of living in peace, loving one another, praying together, and working for the progress of humanity.
He prayed for a better future for all Nigerians before departing.
The Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, thanked the Senate President for inviting them to have Iftar with him.
He expressed gratitude for the invitation, acknowledging the caring nature of the Senate President towards all Senators.
The invitation has confirmed what we know about you. There is a saying in the Hausa language that means inviting you is better than the food.
So when we heard about the invitation, we were very happy that you have us in mind and that you are very caring. So we thank you very much.
May the Almighty Allah continue to guide us and support us as we work with the Executive arm of government to address the challenges we have, and by the grace of God, we will turn our challenges into prosperity. Soon, by the grace of God, this country will become a land of great wealth and prosperity,” Senator Jibrin added.
