“9-1-1” has been given an early Season 8 renewal by ABC after only three episodes of the current season.
After moving from Fox to ABC, the show has been a hit with viewers. The Season 7 premiere attracted 11.76 million total viewers in its first week, including 4.93 million viewers in live-plus-same-day Nielsen viewership. It also became ABC’s highest-rated multiplatform telecast in nearly two years for adults aged 18 to 49. It is currently the network’s most-watched current show across all platforms this season.
The move to ABC has benefited the show. The day after the series premiered on ABC, it had its most-streamed day ever on Hulu, with 1.6 million total hours streamed and consistently featured in Hulu’s Top 15 every day since.
The renewal comes ahead of the show’s 100th episode, which will be Season 7's fourth episode titled “Buck, Bothered and Bewildered,” airing on April 4.
“9-1-1” debuted in 2018 on Fox and quickly became a hit. Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, the drama follows the lives of a group of first responders and often incorporates their personal stories with real-life disasters. The show currently stars Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Oliver Stark, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Guzman, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi and Gavin McHugh.
The series is produced by 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios, in association with Ryan Murphy Television and Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision. New episodes are released on ABC Thursdays at 8/7c p.m. and on Hulu the following day.
