In separate operations in Zamfara and Katsina states, soldiers of the Nigerian Army killed at least 11 terrorists.
The terrorists were eliminated after a raid on terrorist leader hideouts in the states.
In Zamfara, the hideout of a terrorist leader, Hassan Yantagwaye, in Tsafe Local Government Area was raided, and two of his men were killed in the gun battle that ensued.
This information was shared by the Nigerian Army in a post on X on Monday.
The post stated, 'Nigerian Army troops engaged in Counter Terrorism Counter Insurgency operations in Katsina and Zamfara States raided terrorists’ enclaves and eliminated a significant number of them.'
During an operation in Zamfara State on March 29, 2024, troops raided the den of a notorious terrorists’ leader, Hassan Yantagwaye, in Tsafe Local Government Area. Yantagwaye and his group have been responsible for kidnappings and acts of terrorism in some parts of North West Nigeria.
During the operation, troops overpowered the terrorists in a gun battle, killing 3 of them and recovering a large cache of arms and ammunition. The terrorists’ camps were also destroyed.
The post also mentioned that the operation in Katsina State resulted in the death of eight terrorists.
Weapons and military uniforms were seized from the terrorists.
In Katsina State, the troops engaged in a fierce gun battle with terrorists in Faskari Local Government Area, resulting in the neutralization of eight terrorists and the recovery of three locally made guns, military uniforms, and a large quantity of stolen grains.
The service also reported that armed fighters were captured in Ebonyi State and illicit drugs were intercepted in Ogun State.
In Ebonyi State, troops encountered armed Effium militias and captured one of them in a combat engagement.
The troops also recovered one AK-47 rifle and 11 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and the captured suspect is undergoing preliminary investigation.
On March 29, 2024, troops intercepted 441 wraps of substance suspected to be Cannabis Sativa at Molegede village in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun state.
The soldiers discovered the illicit substances in a Mazda Saloon car after the smugglers fled upon seeing the troops.
The vehicle and illicit products will be handed over to the appropriate agency after preliminary investigations.
In March 2024, the Nigerian Army announced that in collaboration with hybrid forces, eight terrorists were killed during an operation in Sambisa Forest in Borno State. The army also stated that several terrorists fled with gunshot injuries during the operation. The organization said that while searching in Sambisa forest, its soldiers eliminated three terrorists and demolished their hiding places in the forest.
