Despite the stocks for Truth Social opening well above expectations and increasing Donald Trump's net worth, he is still asking his supporters for money. John Oliver found humor in the legally troubled ex-president’s latest plea, likening it to a hostage video.
Trump recently uploaded a video to YouTube, standing in front of a portrait resembling a stereotypical pilgrim surrounded by dead trees, requesting people to donate any amount of money, even as little as five or ten dollars.
“That is a man who constantly talks about being one of the richest men on Earth, pleading with strangers for money in a video that resembles a hostage video filmed in a house haunted by the world’s gaudiest ghosts,” Oliver remarked as the clip concluded.
The “Last Week Tonight” host then poked fun at the various items Trump has been trying to sell, such as Bibles, cologne, shoes, and more. However, none of this surprised him. So, he provided a reminder to viewers.
“This year more than ever, everything Trump does is going to be a cash grab,” Oliver stated seriously. “This year has brought one of the few times he’s actually been asked to pay the price for his actions, but already, he’s got other people footing the bill.”
Oliver criticized Trump again for “monetizing his bad behavior,” citing his mugshot t-shirt as the perfect example, before proceeding to his main segment of the night.
“Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” is now available on Max.
