Egypt's president, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, will take the oath for a third straight term on Tuesday at the new government center under construction near Cairo, as reported by the state-owned newspaper Al-Ahram on Monday.
After more than ten years in office, Sisi will officially begin his new term on Wednesday by swearing to uphold the constitution at the new parliament location in the administrative capital to the east of Cairo, according to Al-Ahram.
At the age of 69, Sisi, who won the reelection with 89.6 percent of the votes against three relatively unknown candidates, will start his third term more than three months after being reelected.
Sisi, a former army chief and defense minister, played a key role in removing the former Islamist President Mohammed Morsi from power amid widespread protests across the nation.
According to the constitution, his upcoming six-year term is expected to be his final one.
MP Mustafa Bakri, a close associate of the ruling authorities, indicated that the government is likely to resign following Sisi's inauguration in order to facilitate a cabinet reshuffle.
The inauguration takes place amid a severe economic crisis, characterized by soaring inflation and a shortage of foreign currency that has hindered international trade.
In the first quarter of 2024, Egypt received a large influx of funds, including $35 billion from the United Arab Emirates, as well as a $5 billion increase in an original $3 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund.
Sisi's supporters believe that the influx of foreign currency will rejuvenate the economy, but skeptics doubt that any improvement will occur without essential reforms to reduce the extensive influence of the military and government in the economy.
