Super Falcons player Jennifer Echegini is happy after scoring three goals in Juventus' 4-0 victory over Fiorentina in the Serie A Femminile TIM, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
The 23-year-old's great performance at the Stadio Comunale Vittorio Pozzo Lamarmora in Biella helped Juventus secure their first win since beating Napoli 4-1 on February 18.
Echegini, who moved from Florida State Seminoles in January, has now scored eight goals in as many games for Juventus, making her the league's second top scorer, just one goal behind 33-year-old Cristiana Girelli.
After the game with Fiorentina, the Falcons midfielder expressed hope to continue performing well.
“I'm really excited and I want to credit my team,” the former Arsenal youth academy star said.
“For each of those goals, we all put in the effort, and they're great team goals. I just had to position myself, and I couldn't have done it without them.
“I'm really thrilled to have had the chance to showcase my abilities; it makes me happy. I just want to make the most of any opportunity I get, whether I score or not, I want to make an impact, and I'm glad to have done that today.
“I know my strengths. Last year, I scored 16 goals and knowing that, I always try to position myself well to score. That's one of my best attributes, and I want to utilize it as best I can.”
Meanwhile, Juventus FC head coach Giuseppe Zappella was amazed by the quality and character of the Falcons midfielder.
“Joe (Echegini) has scored eight goals in just a few weeks,” Zappella said at the post-match press conference.
“She's a quiet girl, her smiles are good for us, and she scores goals. Honestly, we don't know what her ceiling is.
“This win gives us some reassurance after more than a month without a win. We're very happy.”
Echegini hopes to continue her goal-scoring form in the national team, as she has been included in the squad set to face South Africa this week.
The Super Eagles face the Banyana Banyana over two matches to determine who qualifies for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
