The Delta State Government has achieved over two million people enrolled in the state health insurance program within seven years.
The Director-General of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission, Dr. Isaac Okpoveta, mentioned this on Monday during the distribution of health insurance cards to 100 enrolled adoptees at Onicha-Olona in Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.
He expressed, “I am very happy to stand before you all today as we come together to celebrate the generous and compassionate act of the Oganishu Umu Ogbekenu Foundation, which has set a great example for everyone to follow.
“The foundation bought health insurance for 100 vulnerable individuals in the community in response to the DSCHC's call for all people of goodwill to support the indigent enrollee adoption initiative of the commission.
“This is not just a charitable act; it is a demonstration of deep understanding and a tangible commitment to the well-being of our people.
“Today, through these initiatives, we have significantly increased healthcare coverage and improved health outcomes for our people.
“As of the end of March 2024, our enrollment statistics show two million insured. This number reflects the trust and confidence that the people of Delta State have placed in our commission and its programs.
“Healthcare should not be a luxury for the privileged few; it is a fundamental human right that must be ensured for all”
Okpoveta praised the foundation for purchasing health insurance for the vulnerable members of the community, noting that the foundation has shown an understanding of the principle and demonstrated the power of collective action in creating positive change.
He mentioned that with N7,000 per person, one can buy health insurance cards for neighbors to access quality healthcare throughout the year.
The DG of the foundation, Chukwugozi Modungwo, who praised the commission’s initiative, said the gesture was to enable the vulnerable to have access to healthcare.
He said the foundation would continue to partner with the commission and be ready to enroll more indigents to make life easy for them by accessing healthcare, especially during this hardship period.
