The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has encouraged the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state's 368 wards to be generous in victory and welcome back those who are rejoining the party.
This information was acquired from the Government House Press Unit on Monday.
During the PDP ward meeting at his hometown, Ibiakpan – Obotim Ward II centre, Nsit-Ibuim Local Government Area, the governor explained that the purpose of the meetings was to enable the party leadership to welcome the large number of people who have recently rejoined the party and to strengthen the party’s support base.
He stated, “It has been a positive experience. We plan to continue strengthening the party at the grassroots level, working for our state, and supporting our President at the national level.
“We have completed elections and individuals want to return. I believe they have observed that the government is responsible and capable, and they are convinced and are returning voluntarily, without being coerced.
“As caring and responsible party members, we must open our doors, because Akwa Ibom is a PDP state and has always been. So, we need to increase our membership, continue to demonstrate capability, and also receive feedback from those at the party's base.”
The governor noted that the thousands of returnees indicate that they are convinced of the direction and sincerity of the PDP-led government in the State.
Eno, while expressing gratitude to the returnees as their action will expand the party's support base, restated his commitment to serving the people of the State and supporting the government at the national level.
Welcoming the governor and other members of the ward, the Ibiakpan-Obotim Ward II Chairman, Ukpong Michael, expressed the satisfaction of the party at the ward level with the performance of Governor Umo Eno in less than one year and the honor he has brought to the party.
He also praised the impressive turnout of party loyalists and urged the people to continue supporting their own.
