A Nigerian swimming coach, Akinrodoye Dare, also known as Coach Dreh, completed the entire 11.8 kilometers of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Saturday.
Coach Dreh finished the challenge in two hours and 33 minutes with the goal of increasing awareness about mental health problems, especially suicide and depression.
In a video posted on X by #MeetPrinceAhmad, Coach Dreh emphasized the significance of mental health and urged those dealing with difficulties to seek assistance.
He stated, "I'm going to swim the whole length of the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge to raise awareness and educate the public about mental health, suicide, and depression.
"It's 11.8km from Mainland Oworonshoki to Island Adeniji Adele.
"I have more than ten years of experience in the aquatic field, and swimming for me means I can accomplish anything and become anything I desire through it.
"Mental health is a cause I'm deeply passionate about, and life can be very challenging, and I believe it's okay to ask for help. Your life can change positively in the blink of an eye; stay alive to witness it."
After the feat, #MeetPrinceAhmad wrote, "Today, 30th March, 2024. A young man bravely swam the 11.8km length of the Third Mainland Bridge in 2 hours, 33 minutes, and 50 seconds.
"His name is Dare, also known as Coach Dreh. He swam to combat mental health, suicide, and depression."
Another user, #AbisolaAlawode, wrote, "2 hours, 33 minutes of continuous swimming! That's how long it took Coach Dreh to swim the entire length of the Third Mainland Bridge. He swam to raise awareness for mental health, specifically suicide and depression.
"For those concerned about Coach Dreh's health, I can confirm that he received immediate medical attention right after he was taken out of the water.
"The Lagos State Government had a 'floating clinic' on standby throughout.
