Officers from the Lagos Rapid Response Squad stopped an effort to take their patrol bike in Ikeja on Sunday.
A 19-year-old called Akinjobi Wahab was captured as four others got away.
The Public Relations Officer for the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed this in a statement on Sunday.
Hundeyin explained that the officers, dressed casually, were on patrol when the suspect armed with a machete tried to take their patrol bike.
He said, “Rapid Response Squad members, dressed casually and patrolling on a motorcycle, apprehended a 19-year-old robbery suspect, Akinjobi Wahab, in the act of trying to take their motorcycle.
“The machete-wielding suspect was apprehended around 4am on Acme Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja, with four others who are now on the run.
“This follows the implementation of regular foot and vehicle patrols in the area by Commander RRS, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, in response to frequent reports of robbery in the early morning hours around Agidingbi, Ikeja.
PUNCH reported last week how one Sodiq, said to be a member of a notorious gang of robbers that specializes in stealing motorcycles, was arrested at the Ilesa Garage area of Osogbo, Osun State.
