A summary of ice hockey for young players outcomes from the Okanagan and surrounding area.
WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE
The Kelowna Rockets had a good start, but ended up losing to the Wenatchee Wild. The Wild came back from a 4-1 deficit after the first period and scored 7 goals in the last two periods on Friday evening.
Briley Wood, Evan Friesen, Karter Prosofsky, Graham Sward, and Kent Isogai scored for Wenatchee, which is leading the series 1-0.
Tij Iginla, Max Graham, Gabriel Szturc, and Marek Rocak scored for Kelowna.
The Rockets had a 4-1 lead going into the second period, but the Wild quickly caught up. Iginla completed his hat trick at 6:18 to make it 5-2.
Wenatchee then made a comeback, scoring three goals in four minutes to make it 5-5.
The game was tied at 6-6, but Wood scored again, making it 7-6. Isogai added the final goal of the game, which ended with a score of 8-6.
Rocak scored to make it 6-5, but Wood quickly responded with his third goal of the night.
Wood scored his fourth goal at 7:06, and Isogai closed the scoring with an empty-net goal at 19:58.
Daniel Hauser saved 29 of 35 shots for Wenatchee, while Jari Kykkanen saved 29 shots out of 36 for Kelowna.
Wenatchee scored 4 out of 5 times on power plays, while Kelowna scored 2 out of 6 times.
The first WHL playoff game at Town Toyota Center had an attendance of 2,110.
The two teams will play again on Saturday night in Wenatchee, and then the series will move to the Okanagan for Games 3 and 4 on Tuesday and Wednesday.

B.C. HOCKEY LEAGUE
At Penticton, Teagan Kendrick made 47 saves to help the Smoke Eaters beat the Vees on Friday night.
Mathieu Cobetto-Roy, Isaac Fecteau, Maxim Potvin, and Jason Stefanek scored for Trail, which was ahead at the breaks.
This was Trail’s first regular-season victory in Penticton since Nov. 6, 2019.
Callum Arnott and Francesco Dell’EIce scored for Penticton, which outshot the Smoke Eaters 49-18 but couldn’t tie the game despite narrowing the score to 3-2.
Will Ingemann had 14 saves for the Vees.
Trail scored once on a power play, while Penticton scored once in 5 attempts.
WEST KELOWNA 4, POWELL RIVER 3
At West Kelowna, the Warriors took a 4-0 lead and managed to hold off the Kings in a close comeback on Friday.
Dylan Krayer, Felix Caron, Carter Oakenfold, and Trent Wilson scored for West Kelowna, which led 2-0 after the second period.
Oakenfold and Wilson scored early in the third period to make the score 4-0, but the Kings fought back with three goals.
Christian Maro and Zander Stewart, with two goals each, scored for Powell River (14-34-5-0-0).
Rorke Applebee blocked 19 of 22 shots for the Warriors, while Justin Katz saved 31 shots out of 35 for the Kings.
West Kelowna converted 1 out of 4 power plays, while Powell River had no success with 2 power plays.
PRINCE GEORGE 6, VERNON 5 (OT)
At Vernon, Skogen Schrott netted the game-winning goal in overtime as the Spruce Kings defeated the Vipers on Friday night.
Owen Goodbrand scored two goals, with Linden Makow, Luca Primerano, and Kazumo Sasaki adding goals for Prince George (16-34-3-0-0), who were in the lead at both 2-1 and 4-2 in the respective periods.
Noah Dorey scored two goals, Julian Facchinelli, Carson McGinley, and Hank Cleaves answered for Vernon (32-19-2-0-0), who were down 5-2 early in the third period, but managed to rally with three goals to force overtime.
Charlie Zolin prevented 22 of 27 shots for the Spruce Kings, and Ethan David made 23 saves on 29 shots for the Vipers.
Prince George converted 1 out of 5 power plays, while Vernon did not have any power-play opportunities.
At Salmon Arm, Eli Pulver blocked 28 of 29 shots on Friday night as the Silverbacks defeated the Bucks.
Adam Boatter, Reid Varkonyi, and Patrick Raftery scored for Salmon Arm (34-16-0-3-0), who were leading 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 early in the third period.
Donovan Frias scored for Cranbrook (20-31-3-0-0), who closed the gap to 2-1 at 15:45 of the third.
Braedyn McIntosh saved 36 shots out of 39 for the Bucks.
Both teams were successful on 1 out of 5 power plays.
