The Nigeria Police Force's operatives have detained eight individuals believed to be connected to the killing of policemen in the Ughelli area of Delta State.
Just a week after the arrest of five individuals linked to the officers' murder, another eight suspects have been apprehended.
Last Saturday, the police revealed the identities of 12 policemen, stating that six were killed and six others remain missing following a rescue operation in the state. identities The mentioned officers, including Inspector Abe Olubunmi (IRT), Inspector Friday Irorere, Sergeant Kuden Elisha, Sergeant Akpan Aniette, Sergeant Ayere Paul, and Sergeant Ejemito Friday, were ambushed on February 23 during a rescue mission.
In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, mentioned that the policemen were attacked by armed assailants while on a mission to investigate the disappearance and rescue of three of their colleagues in Ohoro Forest in the state.
He also stated that five suspects had been apprehended in connection to the officers' killing.
The total number of suspects in police custody has now reached 13.
Adejobi provided an update on the case, indicating that the suspects are currently in custody and are aiding the ongoing investigation.
He credited the arrest to the dedicated investigative efforts of the operatives.
Furthermore, he emphasized the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to swiftly and decisively bring all those responsible for such acts to justice.
He assured that once the investigations are concluded, the suspects will face trial with credible evidence.
Adejobi mourned the violent act against the officers, expressing condolences to the families of the fallen officers.
He added that those involved in the officers' killing would be held accountable.
He also vowed that the killers of the officers would not escape punishment.
He reiterated that the perpetrators of this and other similar acts have disrupted peace and would not evade punishment.
