On Friday, MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace visibly discarded her prepared script while reporting breaking news about a new public attack from former president Donald Trump. The anchor, clearly upset, expressed to her panel of guests the need for a change in response to Trump’s outrageous and sometimes dangerous actions both online and offline.
While detailing the news about requests for gag orders due to threats for judges and their children, Wallace picked up her news script and tossed it aside, stating that she had reported similar breaking news numerous times before going on air.
After apologizing for the disruption, Wallace criticized Donald Trump for breaking the rule of law and causing delays in federal criminal trials. She also emphasized the need to cover the broken judiciary caused by Trump.
Wallace pointed out that Donald Trump managed to delay federal criminal trials and enlist the Supreme Court in the process, and highlighted Trump's repeated attacks on judges without proper protection.
In response to a post on Truth Social by Trump about Judge Juan Merchan's daughter, who had previously placed Trump on a gag order, Wallace spoke about the situation.
Trump wroteShe mentioned Trump's comments on Judge Juan Merchan and his daughter, questioning the integrity of the case.
Trump's social media post about Judge Merchan's daughter was described as part of his repeated use of unsubstantiated accusations against political opponents, posing a real danger.
There is no evidence to support the claim about Merchan's daughter.
Trump's frequent use of social media to make baseless accusations against political opponents, both perceived and real, is unprecedented and has posed a genuine threat to his targets.
The gag order in Trump’s hush money case aims to restrict both Trump and his representatives from making public statements about jurors and witnesses, as well as the court's staff, prosecutors, and family members. However, it does not prevent Trump from commenting on Judge Merchan or his family members.
The hush money case is the first of Trump’s four federal cases going to trial. The case involves accusations of mischaracterizing payments to his former lawyer Michael Cohen as legal fees when they were actually related to Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, including a payment to adult entertainment star Stormy Daniels.
Trump has entered a plea of not guilty to 34 charges of altering business documents and has stated that Daniels’ accusations are untrue.
