The police in Ogun State said that in Ogijo, in the Sagamu Local Government Area, a 54-year-old man named Chizoke Obiadada and his 17-year-old son, Micheal, were arrested for causing the death of their neighbour’s wife, Tope Owoade, through physical violence.
The incident occurred on Thursday, March 28, 2024.
SP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the state police command, shared this information in a statement released to the press on Saturday.
Obiadada and his son got into a physical altercation with the deceased after insisting that she not sit on a table she used for selling cow skin, known as “ponmo”
The suspects were apprehended after the deceased’s husband, Isiaka, reported the matter to the police at the Ogijo Divisional Headquarters. The statement revealed, “Owoade explained that on March 29, 2024, when he returned home, his late wife told him that on March 28, 2024, at around 2030hrs, Chizoke Obiadada, 54 years old, and his son, Micheal Obiadada, 17 years old, their known neighbors, brutally attacked her, causing fatal injuries.
“As a result, she suffered severe bleeding from the womb and her private parts when she confronted the two for sitting on the work table she used for selling cow skin, ‘ponmo.’
“He mentioned that his wife was taken to Main Frame Private Hospital and Kunle Hospital, Atan Agowa, and she was turned away.
“He additionally mentioned that his wife passed away while being transported to a government hospital.”
In response to the report, the Ogijo Divisional Police Officer promptly instructed the arrest of the offenders, and they are currently undergoing initial investigations.
Odutola stated that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a discreet inquiry.
Meanwhile, efforts were being made to move the deceased to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu morgue for post-mortem examination.
