Mara Gay from the New York Times labeled Donald Trump a “bully and a thug” for attacking Judge Juan M. Merchan's daughter after the judge put a gag order in place that stops Trump from speaking out against prosecutors, court staff, or their family members.
Nicolle Wallace, a political commentator on MSNBC, asked Mara Gay if Trump is someone who would threaten the safety and security of someone’s adult daughter.
Mara Gay explained that Trump is a thug and a bully, and she believes that voters can have a strong impact in November by showing no confidence or interest in Trump and Trumpism. She also stressed the importance of holding Trump accountable for his behavior.
Mara Gay made these comments in response to Trump's remarks about Merchan's daughter Loren, following the gag order issued by Merchan on Tuesday. The order did not stop Trump from talking about Merchan’s family.
Trump questioned why he wasn't allowed to talk about the attacks against him, while the Judge's daughter was apparently able to make posts about him being jailed. This was in response to claims that the Judge's daughter had uploaded photos of him behind jail bars, although Trump didn't post the photo in question.
Trump expressed that he thought the demand was “illegal, un-American, unConstitutional.” Mara Gay said that Trump's refusal to comply with the law is further evidence of his unacceptable behavior and the reason why he needs to be held responsible.
Mara Gay concluded that Trump is operating with impunity and should not be above the law, emphasizing the need to hold him accountable. She highlighted the seriousness of the case in Manhattan, stating that having a president above the law is unacceptable.
Trump’s hush-money trial is set for April 15 and involves allegations that he instructed his former lawyer Michael Cohen to pay off adult film star Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about their alleged affair, and then falsely recorded the payments as legal fees.
