A 10-year-old boy named Israel has choked his friend, Ezekiel, at Powerline in the Ejigbo area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Online learned that the event occurred on Friday while they were playing soccer in the neighborhood.
A police source who talked to our reporter on Saturday mentioned that the game was still going on when an argument started between the two boys.
According to the source, Israel grabbed 10-year-old Ezekiel’s neck and choked him until he became unconscious and stopped breathing.
The source explained, "A report was received at Ejigbo Division on Friday from a complainant who stated that his son, 10-year-old Israel, was playing soccer with some boys at Oluwole Street, Powerline Ejigbo, where his mother’s shop is located when he had an argument with a boy named 10-year-old Ezekiel, who grabbed his neck and choked him to death."
The late Ezekiel was reportedly taken to the hospital where the doctor on duty confirmed his death.
"A team of detectives visited the scene, took a photograph of the body, and transported it to the General Hospital in the Isolo area of the state where the doctor confirmed his death," the source added.
When reached for comment, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, verified the incident.
He stated, "The body has been transferred to the morgue for post-mortem examination. The suspect is in police custody, and an investigation is underway."
