Bayana Bayana goalie Kaylin Swart acknowledges that competing against the Super Falcons is a difficult task but states that she and her teammates are prepared for their important final Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers against their well-known opponents.
Both teams have built a strong rivalry over time and are considered the best in Africa after recent achievements, but the South Africans have been the ones winning recent matches.
Banyana defeated Nigeria in their most recent two encounters: the 2022 Women’s Afcon in Morocco and 2021 Aisha Buhari Cup in their home country, competitions that Banyana went on to win.
“Nigeria is a very challenging place to visit, but we have had some success in that country. It’s going to be another tough battle, but we are ready for it,” Swart said.
“We are currently in-season (in the SA Super League), so I believe we have improved significantly. Our teams have gotten better, and the level of individual skill has improved.
“So, I think the coaches are excited. Of course, we are now preparing for the upcoming game and we are all in very high spirits as individuals and as a team.”
