Universal Pictures has postponed the release of 'Wolf Man' which features Christopher Abbott to 2025.
It was originally supposed to come out in theaters on Oct. 25, but now it's coming out on Jan. 17, 2025. Julia Garner, known for her roles in “Ozark” and “Inventing Anna,” will also star.
The Blumhouse production is both directed and written by Leigh Whannell, who has previously worked on “The Invisible Man,” “Upgrade,” and “Insidious: Chapter 3.”
The movie is described as a “terrifying new wolf-like nightmare” and a “chilling reinterpretation of the classic Universal monster.” The screenplay was developed by Whannell in collaboration with Corbett Tuck, Lauren Schuker Blum, and Rebecca Angelo, who worked on “Dumb Money.”
Abbott, known for his roles in “Poor Things” and “It Comes at Night,” plays a man whose family is under attack from a deadly predator. Abbott replaced Ryan Gosling in the updated monster role, who was initially cast in the film, when the project was being directed by Derek Cianfrance, known for “Place Beyond the Pines.” Benicio del Toro was the last well-known actor to take on this role in 2010’s “The Wolfman.”
“Wolf Man” is produced by Jason Blum, founder and CEO of Blumhouse, and executive produced by Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner, and Whannell. It is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.
Universal has also temporarily pulled Blumhouse’s “The Woman in the Yard” from its lineup. The horror film featuring Danielle Deadwyler was initially set to premiere on January 10, 2025.
It is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who also recently worked with Deadwyler on the upcoming action thriller “Carry-On.” The screenplay for “The Woman in the Yard” was written by first-time feature screenwriter Sam Stefanak.
“The Woman in the Yard” is produced by Blum and Stephanie Allain. Deadwyler serves as an executive producer along with director Collet-Serra, Gabrielle Ebron, Scott Greenberg, and James Moran.
“Wolf Man” will be released in theaters on Jan. 17, 2025.
