Two Pittsburgh Steelers amazing players are set to lead week-long events at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in spring 2024.
On March 28th, the Hall of Fame announced thatDonnie Shell will take part in the new program. and Lynn Swann Guests will be guided through the museum, meet the players, and hear their NFL stories.
Jim Porter, the president of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, said having Hall of Famers present makes the atmosphere more exciting and inspiring.
Both Shell and Swann won the Super Bowl four times with the Steelers in the 1970s. They are part of the
famous 1974 class that had five Hall of Famers. The Steelers drafted Swann as the 21st overall pick and signed Shell as an undrafted free agent. Shell was a safety and part of the Steel Curtain defense. He was chosen for the Pro Bowl for five consecutive years and named team MVP in 1980. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020.
Swann is known as one of the best receivers in Steelers history. He was the MVP in Super Bowl X and was picked for three Pro Bowls. He joined the Hall of Fame in 2001.
The Hall of Fame is introducing a new program
Shell and Swann are among 28 former players taking part in the Hall of Fame’s new program.
Each player will be in Canton, Ohio for a week.
In addition to meeting guests at the museum, participants will also be involved in activities in the Northeast Ohio region. These activities will include visits to local schools, businesses, non-profit organizations, and hospitals.
Each participant will add their own special touch to the program.
The program begins on April 3 with former Green Bay Packer
LeRoy Butler and will continue until November.Joe DeLamielleure
Tim Brown, also confirmed their participation in the program. and Joe Klecko It’s not clear when Shell and Swann will lead their events.
The Hall of Fame frequently recognizes the Steelers
This isn’t the first time the Hall of Fame has highlighted the Steelers. This year, they started team-specific exhibits, beginning with the Steelers.
A Legacy Forged in Black and Gold
celebrated the 50th anniversary of the team's impactful 1974 season. It started with the famous draft class consisting of Swann,
Jack Lambert John Stallworth Mike Webster, , and included Shell as an undrafted free agent. It ended with the franchise’s first Super Bowl win. and When the Hall of Fame announced the exhibit on January 10th, Porter mentioned it was fitting for the Steelers to be the first team honored in this way, especially on the 50th anniversary of the year that changed the franchise.The display was planned to be from February 16 to 19,
but the Hall of Fame lengthened it
until February 25 because many people wanted it.
The display had all Steelers Super Bowl trophies and rings, Hall of Fame busts, and many other items of memorabilia. Two Pittsburgh Steelers legends are planned to be hosts for week-long stays at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the spring of 2024. through February 25 due to popular demand.
