Because the weather has been like spring in Saskatchewan lately, some drivers may have changed to summer tires. Unfortunately, the snow is not finished yet.
People in southern Saskatchewan woke up to a snowy Friday, and this weather kept Moose Jaw RCMP busy all night.
At around 3:30 a.m., police started getting calls about slippery conditions west of Parkbeg on Highway 1. This caused several tractor trailers to have trouble going up the hill heading west. The westbound lanes were closed, and the eastbound lanes were reduced to one lane.
At 9:30 a.m., the lanes were opened again.
The Highway Hotline says it's not a good idea to travel from Parkbeg to Rush Lake because of slush and ice covering the highway.
If the weather or road conditions are not good or expected to be, think about delaying your travel if you can. If you have to travel, use roads that have been recently maintained, the Saskatchewan RCMP said on Friday.
Prepare for any situation. Think about keeping extra warm clothes, candles, matches, non-perishable snacks, a snow shovel, traction mats, booster cables, and a tow rope or chain in your vehicle.
You can find more information about road conditions on the Highway Hotline.
Environment Canada hasn't figured out how much snow fell overnight but thinks about 10 centimeters fell by Friday evening.
As of 9:30 a.m., there are snowfall warnings for eastern Saskatchewan.
