A suspect being sought for two first-degree murder charges following deadly shootings at a Vaughan, Ont., nightclub in July 2022 has been apprehended in the United States, according to law enforcement.
York Regional Police stated the individual was being sought on a Canada-wide warrant and was apprehended earlier this week in Hartford, Connecticut with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service.
On July 23, 2022, at about 3:30 a.m., authorities reported gunfire at ATL Lounge on Highway 7 in Vaughan.
Three people were wounded, and two of them later succumbed to their injuries. They were identified by authorities as 25-year-old Tosin Amos-Arowoshegbe and 22-year-old Chibueze Momah.
The third victim, a 20-year-old woman, sustained severe injuries from a gunshot but survived, authorities said.
Authorities mentioned both of the deceased were security personnel at ATL Lounge, and the woman was a customer inside.
“A confrontation occurred in the lounge that resulted in the shooting,” authorities stated in July 2022.
More than 18 months after the shooting, investigators from multiple law enforcement agencies located the suspect wanted for the double homicide.
Investigators in the U.S. apprehended Kensworth Alton Francis, 29, of Mississauga, Ont. He was wanted for two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.
Authorities said officers are collaborating with Ontario’s Ministry of the Attorney General to extradite Francis from Connecticut to York Region.
“York Regional Police is appreciative of the efforts of our law enforcement partners in making this arrest,” authorities stated.
