The RCMP is looking for a suspect after a pedestrian was killed in a hit and run. They think the pedestrian was hit while walking on a central Alberta highway on Thursday morning.
The RCMP said in a news release that they were called to a collision on Highway 590, about 22 kilometres east of Innisfail, at 8:14 a.m. The collision occurred near the intersection of Highway 590 and Highway 805.
When emergency responders arrived, they found a person dead in the south ditch of Highway 590. The victim's age was not provided, but they said the victim was a male.
Police believe the victim was wearing black and walking west on Highway 590.
The RCMP stated, "The victim was last seen walking on the highway at around 6:30 a.m. Between 6:30 a.m. and 8:09 a.m., a vehicle traveling east on Highway 590 struck the victim."
The RCMP mentioned that officers were still at the scene to investigate. They believe the suspect's vehicle would likely be damaged, specifically the passenger mirror would be missing.
The police stated, "The suspect vehicle could be identified by the missing passenger mirror."
Investigators are hoping to talk to any driver who was in the area at the time of the collision. They are looking for dashcam footage to assist with the investigation.
The RCMP mentioned, "The victim's identity is not being released at this time."
