A judge in Quebec will make a decision on Thursday about whether a man will go to trial for the first-degree murder of two children. He is accused of driving a city bus into a daycare in the Montreal area, causing their deaths.
Pierre Ny St-Amand was taken into custody after a transit bus collided with a daycare in the Ste-Rose neighborhood of Laval, Quebec on Feb. 8, 2023. This resulted in the deaths of two young children, aged five and four, and injuries to six others.
Judge François Landry of the Quebec court is overseeing the preliminary inquiry. Thirteen witnesses have testified over four days this week.
Landry will make a decision this afternoon on whether there is sufficient evidence to proceed with a trial for St-Amand.
The 52-year-old former city bus driver is facing two charges of first-degree murder, as well as seven other charges, including attempted murder and aggravated assault.
A publication ban is in place to protect the identities of the victims and any evidence presented during this week’s hearings.
