Nigeria Remo Stars and Sporting Lagos from the Premier Football League won't take part in this year's Federation Cup because they lost in the semi-finals of the Ogun and Lagos states FA Cups on Thursday, PUNCH Sport Exra reports.
For the second year in a row, Remo lost to their youth team, Beyond Limits Football Academy, while Sporting was defeated by Nigeria National League side Inter Lagos. The wins allowed the NNL sides to advance to the Federation Cup as well.
Remo and Beyond Limits each had a player sent off and due to a penalty shootout miss by Adams Olamilekan, the junior side won 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Chukwudi Isaac scored for the academy team in the sixth minute, while Haruna Hadi equalized for Daniel Ogunmodede's team in the 20th minute.
Just before the hour mark, Beyond Limits went down to 10 men after Adebayo Dikko was red-carded for a second bookable offence and Adedayo Olamilekan was also sent off in the same manner a minute before the end of regular time.
Beyond Limits will play against Stormers Sports Club of Abeokuta in the final after beating Ijebu United 4-0 in the second semi-final.
In their first ever Lagos derby, Inter Lagos defeated Sporting Lagos 2-0 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.
Tony Obia played a key role for the NNL side, scoring once and assisting another goal for Abubakar Taheer, helping them secure a lead before the break and setting up a final match against champions Ikorodu City FC, who beat First Bank 3-0 in the other semi-final.
