Police in Montreal are working to understand a series of bold early morning shootings that concluded with a deadly car crash and resulted in two others being taken to hospital.
The Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal stated that they are examining three crime scenes on Thursday morning.
The SPVM reported that gunfire was first noticed along Pie-Ix Boulevard shortly after 5 a.m.
Authorities stated that two vehicles exchanged gunfire in a planned shooting along the boulevard.
One driver was shot in the upper body and taken to the hospital. Police believe he will recover. The other vehicle involved fled the scene.
Shortly after, the vehicle that fled the scene crashed into a tree on Rue St. Zotique, just minutes from the shooting location. There were three men in their 20s in the car at the time of the crash.
One person was fatally injured at the scene and another was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Emergency services officials are concerned for his life.
Shortly afterwards, another vehicle was hit by bullets in a deliberate shooting on Saint Joseph Boulevard.
No one was reported injured in that incident.
Authorities are unsure if the events are related, according to the police.
