Donald Trump is trying to sell another item, a $60 Bible this time. The hosts of “The View” consider it to be nothing but “disrespectful” hypocrisy.
On Tuesday, Trump posted a video advertising the new religious text, which he’s produced in collaboration with country music star Lee Greenwood, famous for his song “God Bless the U.S.A.” Trump says the books contain the Pledge of Allegiance, the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence.
After the video aired on “The View” on Wednesday morning, the hosts were quiet for a while, looking either annoyed, confused, or both. Once they regained their composure, they immediately criticized Trump’s latest effort to sell a product.
“The last time he was on his knees, he was looking to pick up a french fry,” Joy Behar quipped. “Please.”
Behar then recalled Michael Cohen’s testimony that Trump once said pastors are “all hustlers,” and that Trump complained about religious figures after a meeting with them.
“This is hypocrisy at its most religious!” Behar stated.
Host Sara Haines agreed, saying it’s “playing to the crowd” and arguing that Trump is definitely not an example of someone who follows the teachings of Jesus. Host Sunny added that the merchandise is “disrespectful,” but she wouldn’t allow herself to delve deeper into it.
“It’s Holy Week, so I can't say what I would like to say,” she joked with visible restraint.
“The View” airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
