Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, on Wednesday, asked wives of all 36 state governors to select one college or university and 100 farmers in their states for projects to help them by the Renewed Hope Initiative.
The 100 farmers would include 25 males and 75 females.
This came after an agreement between the Tertiary Education Trust Fund and the Renewed Hope Initiative for support in improving infrastructure and developing human resources in college and universities.
“You are to select a college or university in your state, it could be national or state-owned. The first part of this assistance will be done by zone,” Mrs. Tinubu said at the quarterly meeting with Renewed Hope Initiative Zonal and State Coordinators, who are the wives of state governors.
The First Lady’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi, disclosed this in a statement she signed on Wednesday titled, ‘First Lady Oluremi Tinubu says Education is a useful tool to realize women’s rights.’
Tinubu said with education, girls and women would be able to make informed decisions concerning their health and other matters.
She urged the wives of the Governors to make sure their states take advantage of these programs as the people will benefit directly.
The First Lady also announced a collaboration between the RHI and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to assist 100 farmers in each State.
“They are prepared to assist 100 farmers.
“You are to choose the 75 young women and 25 young men who are already farming or are willing to start farming.
“This is to motivate the young people to engage in agriculture. This will benefit them and the country,” she said.
She directed the governors’ wives to encourage young people in their states to take part in the ongoing Unity Fabric competition which has a prize of N25m.
The meeting also discussed matters related to the ongoing Every Home a Garden competition where first-time women farmers are encouraged to plant a garden at home to ensure that the harvest will be enough to provide food for them and their neighbors.
She announced that the Women in Agriculture Support Program, which started in the Country’s Southeastern state of Imo, will also take place in the other five geo-political zones with Ogun State coming up on April 16.
The meeting was an opportunity for the First Lady to congratulate all Muslim faithful on the ongoing Ramadan fast and she prayed for more peace and progress in the country.
