The funeral service for the 17 military personnel who died in Delta State is happening.
On March 14, four officers and 13 soldiers in the military were brutally killed by some angry young people in the Okuama community during a peace mission.

Late Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi Hassan Ali (N/12079) was born on 18 May 1975 in Kano and was from Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State. He went to Kuka Special Primary School, Fagge, for his first education where he got his First School Leaving Certificate. He then attended Government Senior Grammar School, Gwarzo, where he got his West African Secondary School Certificate. He then went to the College of Arts and Remedial Studies, Kano, before going to Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. He joined the Nigerian Army on 2 October 1996 and later got a Short Service Combatant Commission on 17 December 2005 as a member of Short Service Course 34 with the rank of second lieutenant. He changed to Regular Combatant Commission on 24 November 2010. He was part of the Infantry Corps and became a lieutenant colonel on 17 November 2020 before he died on 14 March 2024.
Late Major Daniel Ekwo Obi
(N/14395) was born on 20 December 1985 in Niger State and was from Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State. He attended Atlas School, Lagos, for his primary and secondary education, where he got his First School Leaving Certificate and his Senior Secondary School Certificate. He got into the Nigerian Defence Academy on 8 July 2006 as a part of Regular Course 58 and later got Regular Combatant Commission on 17 September 2011 as a second lieutenant. He was in the Nigerian Army Engineers before moving to the Infantry Corps. He became a major on 8 July 2020 before he died on 14 March 2024.
During his Bomb Disposal Course, he was committed, hardworking and showed a good level of creativity. He contributed thoughtfully to discussions and showed good leadership qualities. He also showed a commendable level of organization, focus, and readiness during his Young Officers’ Course (Engineers). He demonstrated a good understanding of military engineering and potential for growth. While on Junior Course, he was eager to learn and showed balanced knowledge of both Service and contemporary issues.
Late Major Salihu Danjuma Shafa
(N/13976) was born on 27 March 1985 in Maiduguri and was from Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State. He went to Shafa Primary School, Hawul, for his primary education where he got his First School Leaving Certificate. He then went to Government Senior Science Secondary School, Biu, where he got his Senior School Certificate. He then went to the University of Maiduguri where he got his Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology. He got a Short Service Combatant Commission on 6 April 2011 as a second lieutenant and changed to Regular Combatant Commission on 23 August 2018. He was part of the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps and later transferred to the Infantry Corps on 6 April 2020. He became a major on 6 November 2022 before he died on 14 March 2024.
The deceased Captain Usman Zakari was born on 11 May 1989 in Keffi and came from Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. He attended Army Children School Karshi for his primary education, Government Secondary School, Keffi, and later the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, where he earned a Higher National Diploma in Marketing. He received a Short Service Combatant Commission on 12 September 2015 as a member of Short Service Course 43, starting as a second lieutenant. He belonged to the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport before transferring to the Infantry Corps, achieving the rank of captain on 3 January 2023 before passing away on 14 March 2024.
The late Staff Sergeant Yahaya Saidu, born on 14 October 1973 in Bebeji Town in Kano State, enlisted in the Nigerian Army on 19 July 1993 as part of the 36 Regular Intake and served at various locations before his demise on 14 March 2024 during a peace mission at Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State. He bravely participated in Operation ORO III AZARE and DELTA SAFE. Born on 12 August 1989 in Toro Town in Bauchi State, the deceased Corporal Danbaba Yahaya enlisted in the Nigerian Army on 2 September 2010 as part of the 65 Regular Intake and served in different locations before his passing on 14 March 2024 while on a peace mission at Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State. He valiantly participated in Operation LAFIYA DOLE and Operation DELTA SAFE.
The late Corporal Kabiru Bashir, born on 14 February 1990 in Dala, Kano State, enlisted in the Nigerian Army on 6 September 2011 as part of the 66 Regular Intake and was posted to the Infantry Corps Centre Jaji, but no further details were provided. The late Lance Corporal Bulus Haruna, born on 15 July 1994 in Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State, enlisted in the Nigerian Army on 4 July 2016 as part of the 75 Regular Intake and was subsequently posted to the Nigerian Army Armour Corps, Bauchi. He served at 22 Armour Brigade Garrison and 181 Amphibious Battalion Bomadi, Delta State before his passing during a peace mission at Okuama community. No further details were provided.
