Rachel Maddow shared a story about some people at NBC not wanting to hear about Ronna McDaniel's hiring, democracy, and NBC News.
Maddow commented:
We've had plenty of guys like this in the past, but this generation's version has advanced further than the rest. Why is that? He would have been forgotten if he hadn't attached himself to an institution like the Republican Party and if the leader of that party hadn't decided to support him.
My understanding is that MSNBC's leadership didn't oppose Ronna McDaniel being hired by NBC News initially, but when the hiring was announced, there was unanimous and instant outrage, and our MSNBC leadership listened to us and made adjustments. MSNBC staff It was essentially universally and immediately expressed outrage when the hiring was announced, and our MSNBC leadership understood and changed course. We were informed this weekend that Ronna McDaniel will not be featured on MSNBC. This was made clear by our boss since Saturday, despite efforts by other parts of the company to distort the situation in the press.
I also think it's inexplicable that Ms. McDaniel is employed by NBC News. It's like hiring a mobster to work at a DA's office.
It's not about political party, partnership, or being associated with Donald Trump and the Republican Party. It's about our government system, undermining elections, and attacking democracy as an ongoing project. We're facing a difficult time as a country, and need to be aware of the implications. Difficult times lead to difficult decisions. We're dealing with something unprecedented. We're covering an election as usual, but we're also reporting on individuals attempting to use democratic rights and privileges to dismantle democracy.
We're facing this threat not from historical militias, but from a massive political operation within one of the two major governing parties of the United States. This is new and poses a significant danger to the country, leading to inevitable bad decisions and mistakes. However, part of our resilience as a democracy will be
Dealing with this challenge, not just from historical militias, but from a massive political operation within one of the two governing parties of the United States. This is new, and it's inevitable that there will be bad decisions and mistakes as we confront something so daunting and dangerous for the country. But part of our resilience as a democracy will be
recognizing, us knowing when decisions are bad ones. And changing those bad decisions. Paying attention to valid criticism, responding to it, and making corrections. Not stubbornly defending, not blaming others. Pause for a moment. Admit that maybe it wasn’t the right decision. It is a display of strength, not weakness, to admit when you are wrong. It is a display of strength. And our country needs us to be strong right now.

This is about democracy. It is about allowing a supporter of the authoritarian fox into the hen house and giving the fox a central platform to assist in undermining democracy.
Some at NBC News have attempted to present a different story and make it sound like there really wasn’t a rebellion by staff and journalists against the McDaniel hiring. They want to make it seem that the door is open to McDaniel appearing on MSNBC.
Rachel Maddow clarified that the door is closed, and she criticized executives at her employer and NBC News’s highly valued new employee while putting it all into context.
This isn’t about Republicans or Democrats.
All that matters is the future of our democracy.
