Ariana DeBose, who won an Oscar for “West Side Story” and “The Prom”, will star in 87North’s “With Love” with Ke Huy Quan for Universal Pictures, announced by the company on Tuesday.
“With Love” is set to be released by Universal Pictures on Feb. 7, 2025.
This 87North project marks Quan’s first major role in a film after winning an Oscar. Quan has won an Oscar. The movie will be directed by Jonathan Eusebio, who is making his directorial debut in theatrical feature films, and is known for being the second unit director for “Deadpool 2” and “Violent Night”.
David Leitch and Kelly McCormick will be producing the film through their 87North banner, known for works like “Bullet Train” and the upcoming “The Fall Guy”.
The script for “With Love” is written by Josh Stoddard, Luke Passmore, and Matthew Murray, known for their work in projects such as “Warrior,” “Kaleidoscope”, “Archenemy,” “Slaughterhouse Rulez,” “Sheltered,” and “CloudStreet: Soaring the American West”.
While plot details are kept under wraps, Quan’s background as a martial artist suggests that there will be impressive fight choreography in the movie.
The project will be overseen by Universal’s Executive Vice President of Production Development Jay Polidoro and Director of Production Development Tony Ducret.
Ariana DeBose gained recognition for her role in Steven Spielberg’s version of “West Side Story”, earning an Academy Award as well as BAFTA, Critics Choice and SAG Awards. She is also set to appear in Sony Pictures’ “Kraven the Hunter” and Blumhouse’s “House of Spoils” in 2024.
In the past 2 years, DeBose has hosted the 75th and 76th Annual Tony Awards, receiving a Tony nomination for her performance in “Summer: The Donna Summer Musical,” and was part of the original cast of “Hamilton” on Broadway as well as the Emmy Award winning film adaptation of the play on Disney+.
