Amazon MGM has purchased the Imagine Entertainment thriller 'After the Hunt,' which will be directed by Luca Guadagnino and star Julia Roberts, the studio confirmed to TheWrap.
'After the Hunt' written by newcomer Nora Garrett, who will also be an executive producer, will feature Roberts as a college professor whose life is disrupted when one of her top students accuses a colleague, putting a dark secret at risk of being exposed.
Allan Mandelbaum, who brought the film to Imagine and collaborated with CAA to enlist Guadagnino and Roberts, will produce with Guadagnino and Brian Grazer. Imagine’s Karen is also on board as an executive producer.
Amazon MGM’s acquisition will continue their partnership with Guadagnino, as they are set to release the director’s new film, “Challengers,” featuring Zendaya, in theaters next month. Before Amazon’s purchase of MGM, Amazon Studios released Guadagnino’s intense 2018 version of “Suspiria,” while MGM released his 2022 cannibal romance “Bones and All” through United Artists.
Roberts recently starred in the 2022 romantic comedy “Ticket to Paradise” alongside her “Ocean’s Eleven” co-star George Clooney, as well as with Mahershala Ali in the Netflix apocalyptic thriller “Leave the World Behind” directed by Sam Esmail. She is represented by CAA and Hirsch Wallenstein.
Garrett is represented by CAA, Fourth Wall Management, and Yorn Levine. Guadagnino is represented by CAA, Range, and Goodman Genow. The project was first reported by Deadline.
