The Buffalo Bills are making big changes before the 2024 NFL season. The Bills released six veterans on March 6.
In one day, Buffalo cut Jordan Poyer, Siran Neal, Deonte Harty, Nyheim Hines, Tre’Davious White, and Mitch Morse.
The Bills needed to get cap-compliant, as they were $43.3 million over the $255.4 million limit. Buffalo is also working on having a younger team. Bills head coach Sean McDermott talked about the cuts for the first time in an interview with NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero on March 24.
McDermott mentioned, “Every year is a fresh start, and you focus on the first game. Every year is different despite what people say.
“We had to make a lot of changes to meet the cap requirements. So our roster is a work in progress, but the most important thing is for everyone to understand and accept their roles.”
McDermott is proud of what the Bills achieved last year, but their main goal remains the same. “We all have our eye on the world championship, that’s what drives us every morning.”
Sean McDermott Defended Bills QB Josh Allen Against ‘Narrow-Minded’ Criticism’
Ultimately, McDermott aims to surround the quarterback with top talent. Despite critics suggesting that the team’s chance of winning the Super Bowl is closing, and pointing out Allen’s high number of interceptions, McDermott disagrees. Josh Allen In the last two seasons, Allen completed 64.9% of his passes for 8,589 yards and 64 touchdowns. He also ran 235 times for 1,286 yards and 22 touchdowns. McDermott stated that winning the Super Bowl cannot be the only measure of the team’s success.
“We’ve had so much success with the Bills. Josh (Allen), myself, our team, we’ve had a lot of success,” he said. “But we need to take that one more step.”
McDermott believes that considering the Bills' lack of success or Allen's lack of success would be narrow-minded. Winning in the NFL is tough, so they regroup every year and take it one game at a time. They are all looking for Allen to continue to be the face of the franchise and to keep evolving.
Sean McDermott’s Defense Will Look Very Different in 2024

Leonard Floyd Tyrel Dodson and in free agency. All-Pro safety Micah Hyde seems to still be considering retirement. Among the flurry of changes, the Bills re-signed Taylor Rapp to a three-year,
$10.6 million contract and added safety Mike Edwards from the Kansas City Chiefs. Also, Buffalo extended from the Taron Johnson.
