Suspected terrorists attacked a military base in Gujba town, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State on Saturday, March 23, killing a soldier.
Yobe State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, verified the attack to The PUNCH on Sunday, stating that the suspected terrorists also set a military patrol vehicle on fire.
“I can only confirm the attack at the moment. A soldier was killed, and troops and CJTF confronted the suspected terrorists,” he said.
Trustworthy local sources informed The PUNCH that the suspected insurgents arrived in the town at midnight, firing randomly and subsequently targeting the military base. They were later pushed back by troops who pursued them into the surrounding bush.
Gujba resident, Modu Bahna, described the incident, saying, “The suspected terrorists came into the town after midnight, shooting wildly, and many of us fled into the nearby bushes to save our lives.”
“The attackers did not harm any civilians or steal food or other essentials,” according to another source, Dala Bukar. They only attacked the two patrol vehicles at the military base, where a soldier was killed.
This recent killing of a millionaire personal is coming after 15 soldiers were killed during a communal clash in Delta State.
The personnel include two Majors, one Captain, and 12 soldiers.
They lost their lives while responding to a distress call amid a clash between Okuama and Okoloba communities in the state.
