At least six people have been killed by suspected herders in the Kadarko community of Keana Local Government Area in Nasarawa State.
Our reporter learned that two locals were killed at the Tse-Abir Azer community in Kadarko on Friday, and three Tiv farmers were shot and killed on Sunday in the area.
However, a supposed revenge attack by the Tiv farmers resulted in the death of one suspected herder during the Sunday assault.
Denis Utsa, the Chairman of the United Farmers Association in Kadarko, confirmed the incident on Sunday, stating that armed herders attacked Tse-Abir Azer area on Friday and wreaked havoc on the locals.
He mentioned that aside from the two previously killed by the bandits, many survivors of the attack sustained gunshot wounds while escaping.
He identified the victims, including Pastor Kingsley Orshase, a clergyman who later died at a hospital in Lafia on Saturday.
He said, “The victims had gone fishing at a nearby river in the Tse-Abir Azer area when the armed herders attacked them, resulting in the death of two people.
“However, we heard that one of the herders was also killed in a revenge attack during the assault.
“At the moment, the attackers have invaded the IDPs rebuild settlements in Kadarko, and a dozen of the IDPs have fled to nearby communities, including Giza, for refuge.
We are asking the state government to promptly address the situation so that adequate security can be provided in the area.
Efforts to obtain a response from the Nasarawa State Police Command were unsuccessful as the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, did not answer phone calls or reply to text messages.
He also did not respond to text messages sent to his mobile line.
