Ogun State Government continued to distribute relief materials across the three senatorial districts of the state on Sunday, in order to help people cope with the current economic difficulties.
The relief materials were given out in churches throughout the state as part of the Easter celebrations, and some mosques also reportedly received the assistance on Friday
According to a statement from the Governor's Chief Press Secretary, Mr Lekan Adeniran.
The statement said, “In Ogun Central Senatorial District, the relief materials, mostly rice, were shared with worshippers at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Ake, SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Isale Ake and the Celestial Church of Christ, Ijaiye in Abeokuta South Local Government Area
“Some of the recipients praised the governor for his kind gesture, saying that the relief materials were helping to alleviate people’s suffering”.
In separate comments, the Shepherd-in-charge of the Celestial Church, Ven. Superior Joseph Talon, Mr. Abeeden Hammed and Mrs Julianah Adesanya, who were touched by the relief materials, thanked the governor for the gift.
In Ogun East Senatorial District, worshippers at Cathedral Church of St. Paul, C&S, Orisun Emi Alafia, and United Baptist Church in Sagamu, Sagamu Local Government also received the relief materials.
The Bishop of Remo Diocese, Methodist Church Nigeria, Rt. Rev. Bamidele Ibikunle, described the initiative as a positive development.
Speaking on Sunday at the Rev. Mellor Methodist church, Agbowa, Sagamu, Bishop Ibikunle noted that the relief materials would significantly help ease the suffering of the people, especially those who are not sure where their next meal would come from during the Easter period.
“It is great to see that our governor is considering the well-being of the people, and I am especially happy today as we commemorate Palm Sunday.
“We want to express our special thanks to the governor for taking care of his people, especially during these difficult times. This relief will significantly lessen people’s suffering, particularly those who are uncertain about having enough food for Easter to share with their families,” Ibikunle stated.
