The Kaduna State Government declared that the 287 schoolchildren were let go after being kidnapped from Kuriga, Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
A statement signed by the state governor, Senator Uba Sani, on Sunday, relayed this information.
The statement indicated, “I want to announce that our Kuriga school children have been freed.
“We are very grateful to our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for making the safety and security of Nigerians a priority, and especially for ensuring the safe release of the abducted Kuriga school children. While the school children were in captivity, I conversed with Mr. President numerous times. He empathized with us, offered comfort, and collaborated with us tirelessly to ensure the safe return of the children.”
The governor also praised the bravery of the Nigerian Army officers for facilitating the successful release of the schoolchildren.
He remarked, “The Nigerian Army also deserves special praise for demonstrating that with bravery, resolve, and dedication, criminal elements can be weakened and security reinstated in our communities.
“We also express gratitude to all Nigerians who fervently prayed for the safe return of the school children. This is truly a day of happiness. We give Almighty Allah all the credit.”
On March 7, 2024, the schoolchildren from LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School, Kuriga, were kidnapped by the criminals who took them into the forest.
The kidnappers asked for N1bn for their release and set a March 27, 2024, deadline for the ransom to be paid.
