Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State clarified that on March 7, 2024, 137 children were taken from the Kuriga area in the Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
The governor stated that the reported number was not 287 as previously mentioned.
On the Sunday Politics programme on Channels Television, the governor updated the situation, indicating that all the kidnapped children were successfully rescued by the military and local authorities from Zamfara State.
He explained that the previously reported numbers were not accurate and were based on speculation.
“At the time, as a leader, I shouldn't concern myself with specific figures and numbers.
“I spoke with the families of the children, and they verified to me that the numbers given by the military are correct.
“Today, I am pleased. The families are pleased, and the state government is pleased.”
The children were taken from LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School in Kuriga on March 7, 2024.
In contrast to previous reports, the Defence Headquarters announced on Saturday that a total of 137 students have been successfully rescued.
