The ruling All Progressives Congress has stepped in to the ongoing political disagreement between Benue Governor, Hyacinth Alia, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
This action follows a Thursday warning to the supporters and representatives of the two Benue politicians to withdraw their legal cases or face disciplinary actions from the party.
The conflict between the governor and SGF has divided the Benue APC members, with followers split on which side to support.
Party leaders have gone to the national headquarters of the APC in Abuja to report each group to the National Chairman of the party, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje.
On Wednesday, some former members of the Benue House of Assembly expressed concern about the leadership crisis and called for an end to the disputes between Akume and Alia.
The lawmakers, through a former Speaker of the House, Dave Iorhemba, expressed confidence in the leadership of Akume and the state party chairman, Austin Agada, and urged the Benue government to stop dividing the party.
When asked about the actions being taken by the ruling party's leadership regarding the case, Deputy National Organising Secretary of the APC, Nze Duru, said there is no need to worry.
He mentioned, "The party has intervened and soon the results will be known. There have been several meetings with the involved parties – the state governor and the SGF.
"We are working towards a collective success if we all agree to work together and avoid division. The party chairman at the highest level is engaged, and we hope that as a party, this issue will not linger for too long.
When asked if the feud between Alia and Akume was a power struggle for who should lead the party in the state, Duru chose not to directly respond to that question.
