Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s attempt to remove Johnson from his position has given House Democrats power to push for the passage of Ukraine aid.
Greene’s attempt to remove Johnson is because she is extremely angry about the fact that 2/3 of the House approved a bill to fund the government.
House Democrats have been prepared for Greene to follow through on her threat for weeks.
During a March 10, 2024 appearance on CBS’s Face The Nation, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries indicated that Democrats would be willing to assist Johnson retain his position if he presents a Ukraine aid bill for a vote in the House.
Rep. Jeffries mentioned when asked how Democrats would vote if a motion to vacate came to the House floor, “I have made the observation that I believe there are a reasonable number of members, if the Speaker were to do the right thing, that don’t believe that he should fall as a result of it.”
In other words, if Johnson wants to maintain his position, he must bring a Ukraine aid bill to the House floor for a vote.
The potential outcome of Greene’s effort to remove Johnson could be the approval of aid to Ukraine, which she is against.
Speaker Johnson will likely need Democratic votes if Greene proceeds with the motion to vacate.
Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY) explained to CNN why he would vote against the motion to vacate, “Because this is absurd. He’s getting ousted for doing the right thing. Keeping the government running. It has two-thirds support of the congress, and the idea that he would be ousted by these jokers is absurd.”

If Mike Johnson wants to maintain his position, he should fulfill the Democrats' requests, as Marjorie Taylor Greene is prepared to remove him from his position.
