Bandits have killed seven individuals at Yongia Uambie Tiev in Ukembrergya/Tswarev ward in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to a community leader, Anawah Joseph, the event occurred between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Anawah mentioned that the attackers, who were armed with advanced weapons, arrived in large numbers to assault the community.
He mentioned, "The attack began around 4 pm on Tuesday and lasted until 8 pm. Then, they resumed the attack on Wednesday. I don't believe they came to graze, but to launch an attack.
He mentioned that numerous people lost their lives in the assault.
The Chairman of the local government, Rev Adagbe Jonathan, confirmed the attack and stated that seven individuals were killed during the two days of the attack.
He said, "The casualties occurred on Tuesday and Wednesday, totaling seven."
"On Tuesday, two were killed, and on Wednesday evening, five were killed in Yongia Ukambie Tiev, Ukembrergya/Tswarev ward.
"The attacks were carried out by the herdsmen. Even when I went there on an assessment tour, they were still grazing on the other side of the road, claiming that the area was part of Taraba State.
"No one could approach them. I'm currently in Makurdi, I reported to the Special Adviser on Internal Affairs and Security, Special Adviser, Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and to the Permanent Secretary on Bureau of Internal Services."
The lawmaker representing Apa State constituency in the state Assembly, Abu Umoru, on Thursday, expressed sorrow over the constant attacks on his constituency, indicating that he had lost count of the attack's casualties.
The lawmaker listed nine communities in Apa LGA of the state that have become deserted due to bandit attacks.
He stated, "The entire Edikpo Community has been displaced, Opaha has no residents, Odugbo has no one, Akpete, Ikobi, Akpata, Idiaha, Ochumekwu, Adiga have no inhabitants.
"Every day, they set fire to houses in Akpete. As I speak, for three consecutive days, they have been going to Akpete, burning down houses and forcing the residents out of their ancestral homes.
"They have been setting up ambushes and killing people, one to five individuals daily. At present, I do not know the number of casualties. There are too many."
Efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, were unsuccessful as she did not answer her phone or respond to the text message sent to her cellphone.
