The Federal Government is asking Federal Civil Servants on study leave to provide proof of approval from the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.
The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan, mentioned that the Federal Government has established a system for regular verification of workers in order to confirm their actual location.
This information was communicated in a memo to all permanent secretaries in Abuja on Friday.
In August 2021, the Federal Government raised concerns about civil servants seeking study leave with admission letters from questionable foreign universities.
In 2022, the government directed that these employees sign bonds to prevent the misuse of study leave.
In the same memo, Yemi-Esan emphasized the need for physical verification and stated, “As part of the efforts to sustain the gains of the Integrated Personnel Payroll and Information System, it has become necessary to establish a system for regular physical verification of officers in the service.
“Therefore, you are instructed to conduct a physical verification exercise of all staff in your ministry to confirm the location of each officer.
“Officers on study leave must present evidence of approval from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. This should be noted in the remark column.
“The report of the exercise, signed by the permanent secretary, must be submitted to the Office of the Head of the Civil Service on or before 2nd April 2024.”
