The governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has stopped mining operations in the state.
On Friday, the governor announced the deployment of 60 Mining Marshalls to stop illegal mining of solid minerals across the state.
The governor's deputy, Sam Ode, delivered the message, stating that mining activities will be paused until all miners' data is collected.
He also mentioned that the Mineral Resources and Environment Management Committee would gather data of all miners in the state.
He added, "All mining activities will be on hold until the verification exercise is completed.
He urged the security forces and MIREMCO to ensure compliance to enhance the well-being of the people and boost the Internally Generated Revenue.
The governor emphasized that his administration will not tolerate any illegal activities to protect the lives and property of the people.
He also urged the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to continue their efforts in combating crimes related to the state's rich mineral resources.
He stated, "Your efforts should contribute to a better Benue that benefits the people and supports the overall development of our country, Nigeria.
“At this time, when resources for development are scarce, a resourceful and visionary leadership committed to leveraging abundant talents and managing limited resources is essential for transforming the lives and livelihoods of the people.
My administration's blueprint and seven-point agenda aim to reposition and transform the state by harnessing its untapped natural resources.
“I am genuinely committed to transforming Benue State without disrupting the existing structures, by harnessing its abundance of untapped natural resources.
