A man from Leamington, Ontario is facing charges connected to an opioid death that occurred last spring in the Niagara Region.
According to Niagara police, the 22-year-old is alleged to have sent drugs by mail to a 23-year-old in Thorold who died from a suspected overdose.
A police spokesperson stated in a release that “The postmortem examination revealed that the deceased had lethal levels of Oxycodone and Flubromazolam in his system.”
The spokesperson also mentioned, “Flubromazolam is a powerful designer benzodiazepine present in fake Xanax pills and is not legally prescribed in Canada.”
The accused was taken into custody at his residence in Leamington on Thursday, and is facing three charges, including drug possession and trafficking.
He is scheduled to appear before a judge in St. Catharines on May 2.
During the arrest, authorities also seized close to $4,700 in cash, MDMA, and electronic devices.
