Edmonton police announced on Friday that another person was arrested and charged for the fatal stabbing of a 30-year-old man in north-central Edmonton on Sunday.
At 12:15 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a stabbing near 118th Avenue and 97th Street. They discovered a wounded man who was taken to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
The victim was identified as Tjijandjeua Gift Tjaveondja. A post-mortem examination conducted on Wednesday revealed that he was killed by a stab to the chest and his death was deemed a homicide.
Dakota Johnson, 31, had been apprehended and accused of second-degree murder and assault with a weapon related to Tjaveondja’s death. According to the police, the two individuals were not acquainted.
On Friday, Byron Cardinal, 32, was also taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder and assault with a weapon in connection to Tjaveondja’s death. The police stated that the two did not know each other either.
Investigators believe there were more individuals involved in an altercation that resulted in the stabbing.
